When you think of summer, what images come to mind?
Vacations? Ice cream cones melting down your hand? Swimming pools, fireflies blinking in the backyard, and the first ripened tomatoes from your garden?
For me, it's all that and more. What I didn't count on in Summer 2025 was a broken ankle.
I tripped on a toy Friday night which my dog had deposited on one of two steps leading down into our family room. I didn't see it, my ankle rolled, and I landed hard on the floor. I've never had a broken bone before but I knew immediately that it wasn't just a sprain.
Now I'm five days into scooting around the house on an office chair. I have a walking cast but was told NOT to put weight on it until the follow-up appointment in two weeks. Crutches are a pain. My husband has been amazing with taking care of me and the house, though. Also, now I really have no reason to NOT get my daily word goals in. All of the things that help me procrastinate are not accessible--cleaning, walking the dog, tending to the flowers. I guess there's a bright side to being temporarily out of commission.
I'll spare you a photo of my calf wrapped in a sling. Instead here's a collage of what I got to enjoy before I became sedentary.

I'm so excited to share that A Cafe Au Lait Kind of Love will be an audiobook this fall! I'm anticipating an October release which will call for a special celebration as this will signal my first audio endeavor.
Also, I'm continuing to make progress on the next Port Chance novel as well as the special companion novella for the series. Both will be released this fall, so there will be much to celebrate in the Port Chance world, too!
