Have you ever needed a reset? Maybe you treated yourself to a specialty coffee after a long day because you know that hint of chocolate and cloud of whipped cream on top of your mocha always induces a good mood. Or scheduled a massage after a stressful week at work? I know I have. But is there such a thing as a preset? If not, I’m naming it a thing.
This past week I’ve been in Wyoming with my hubby while he teaches geology field camp. It’s a five-week capstone experience that junior/senior college students in the geology major take before they graduate. My hubby and two other faculty members lecture and guide twenty-four students through mapping projects from mid-May through the third week in June.
This week we're staying at a ranch near Cody. While the students and faculty are in the field during the day, I’ve been staying behind at the cabin. I’ve been writing, reading, taking photos of the mountains and flowers, and blue, blue sky. I’ve written more words in the last four days than I have in April and May combined.
My husband talked me into coming this year which I normally don’t do. He’s working, after all, and I have a lot I could be doing at home instead of spending time alone in an unfamiliar place. I put up a fight, but a half-hearted one because I knew he might be onto something. He knows I have a stressful few months ahead of me as I help my mother move across the country. I needed this preset.
Now I have a good start on Christmas in Port Chance, coming your way this fall. I wasn’t confident that I’d get this much work done this week, having struggled with writing for a while now. But here we are. Half of the book is drafted. I'm on a roll.
Thanks to my hubby for the preset.

I've had very limited WiFi this week (I'm currently sitting outside the ranch office to send this out), so I'm keeping this short. I'll be heading back home tomorrow but I've got a book to read on the plane and more plotting to do for this Christmas in Port Chance. I have another sale planned for next week, so watch your inbox to see which book will be discounted (an exclusive sticker pack for one winner if you guess correctly which book it is -- reply to this email with your guess!). It'll be a subscriber-only sale, so stay tuned!
