When my husband and I first moved to our small town over thirty years ago, we got into the habit of going out to breakfast most Saturday mornings. There was a cute little diner in the next town over which was our favorite. Our first born was about two at the time, so it was a nice way for the three of us to start the weekend.
One Saturday we drove the ten miles to the restaurant only to find it closed. Equipment failure or the furnace was out, I can't remember what the sign read on the door. Anyway, we headed to another town where we knew of another establishment we hadn't yet tried.
When we walked into the one-room diner, it was fairly full. Not standing-room-only full, but busy. While we waited for a waitress to seat us, I noticed everyone, okay, almost everyone, had stopped eating and sipping coffee to stare. As if we were three-headed little green people who'd parked a spaceship outside instead of a Ford Escort. My husband noticed, too.
"Let's go," he said under his breath.
My daughter started to squirm in my arms. Maybe she felt the odd vibe, too. I didn't need any prompting. If my husband picked up on it, I knew it wasn't my imagination. We left, and never came back.
Daisy Gap Cafe in Port Chance is decidedly NOT that kind of diner. You can seat yourself first of all. And you'll probably encounter waitress Janie Wendell, bustling over to get your order, dishing a little friendly banter while serving you a piping hot coffee. She's the main character in That Woman on Thistledown Lane, Book #1 in the Port Chance series. Today is that LAST day you can get it for .99¢.
A SUMMARY: Janie Wendell, second oldest of the Wendell sisters, gets her second chance with Mark Christie, after a job opportunity sent them in different directions years ago. Now Mark is back in Port Chance, and Janie isn't sure if her heart can withstand another heartbreak. Their chemistry sizzles like the griddle at Daisy Gap Cafe where Janie waitresses. Is Janie ready to serve Mark a do-over or will she keep him on the back burner for good?

Pi Day is coming up on Friday (3.14)! My son-in-law's birthday is that day, which I've always thought is serendipitous because he's brilliant at math LOL! I've discounted LOVE, LIES and LEMON PIE (Blueberry Point Romance #4) to $1.99 for the occasion, too. If you haven't read this one yet, you're in for a sweet treat! It's a stand alone, so you don't need to read the preceding books first.
