I'm counting the days until September 5th when I get to pack my book box and head to one of my most favorite small towns in the country! I'm so excited to be going back to Romantic Galena Reads in historic Galena, Illinois next month to meet readers and enjoy some of the festivities during Ladies Weekend in the prettiest place in northwestern Illinois.
When I participated for the first time two years ago, I stayed at the beautiful DeSoto House Hotel (it's supposedly haunted!), and was assigned to Room 223 (my birthday!). I didn't experience anything spooky, but was instead charmed by the narrow winding hallways, the tall ceilings, and the delectable food served in the General's Restaurant on the main floor. The free book event took place the next day in one of the second floor ball rooms. Hundreds of eager readers stood outside the doors and filled the balcony encircling the first-floor courtyard--amazing! This time I'm also participating in a fun bookish event on Friday night at a neighboring business, Board & Brush (details here).
This is my only live event this year, so I'm especially excited to get OUT into the world. No, seriously, I'm not that much of a recluse, but between nursing my broken ankle and staying inside and away from the relentless heat this summer, I've feeling a bit like a hermit.
