There's a little thunder rumbling on the horizon as I write this. I'm hoping to get outside to plant some of the lantana I picked up yesterday for the butterflies but it's not looking good for this morning.

So, our weekend could be summed up in three words: family, flat tires. It sounds partly pleasant, doesn't it?

We picked our Wyoming son up at O'Hare on Friday and enjoyed a little time with him this past weekend. Family came over for breakfast on Saturday to visit with him before we drove four hours south to meet our youngest son who was in a wedding in Nashville. Along the way, one of our tires suffered a flat along the highway. Luckily, we had our son along because the tire was stubborn to get off and his muscles work better these days than ours. I stood on the grassy embankment with the pup for 45 minutes in the sun and tick-infested weeds. Then we all headed to McD's for shakes to recuperate before continuing the drive.

The next morning at the hotel, we discovered a nail in our son's tire before the boys were getting ready for their 11-hour trip to Fort Worth! So it was back to the tire shop where we'd just been earlier to patch our truck tire. Huge thanks to Plaza Tire in Carbondale, IL for dealing with the Malones for two hours on Monday morning. They were amazingly quick and pleasant to deal with.

Today I'm sharing a sneak peek of HER NORTHSHORE CHRISTMAS which finds Buds 'N Blooms floral designer Lucy Riggins decorating a Christmas tree to auction at the Holly Days Tree Festival. Trouble is, so is the handsome investment banker Trec Kingston, the man she met at a conference months ago (in Love, Lies and Lavender). Will the competition finally bring them together or push them apart for good? Here's a little snippet:

Trec popped the rest of one canapé into his mouth and plucked another. After a few of these smoked trout canapes, he might work up the nerve to talk to Lucy again.

A few minutes later, Lucy let him off the hook by approaching him first. Of course she headed his way right when Trec stuffed a lobster roll into his mouth. The pastry was dense, chewy; he couldn’t quite swallow it fast enough.

“Hi there,” she said simply, grinning up at him like she knew the difficulty he was having swallowing the blasted thing. “Enjoying the party?”

“Of course. You?” He hoped the bread wasn’t pasted in between his teeth.

“As parties go, it’s wonderful.”

He ran his tongue discreetly over his teeth while she glanced around the room until he felt confident that smiling wouldn’t reveal what had just been on his buffet plate.

“But don’t tell me: You’d rather be at home in sweats, watching cheesy rom-coms, and drinking chamomile.” Trey studied the way her gold filigree earring dangled against her neck.

Lucy opened her mouth. The corners of her eyes crinkled in amusement. “How did you read my mind?”

He shrugged and tried not to marvel at the way the skin above her neckline flushed. Did he embarrass her? “I have three sisters who love to FaceTime me from the comforts of their couches.”

She gave him a knowing look, tilting her head back slightly. "Ahh. You've reached expert status at reading females then."

Trey laughed. "I'd never claim expert status, especially in the company of a female."

Lucy tapped her temple then pointed at him, grinning. "Smart man."

His heart might have just executed a double back flip.

Below are two sweet romances by my author friends Brittney and Laura Ann. I'm still reading Kiss the Girl by Melanie Jacobsen. I'm loving it but I usually read before I turn off the light every night and all the fresh spring air I'm enjoying lately has been knocking me out as soon as my head hits the pillow. I'm almost finished. Then it's onto another romance at the top of my TBR pile!

Happy Reading!
