It's Looking A Lot Like Christmas (in July)

Is there a worse sound to hear inside your house than that of gushing water? Specifically, in a room without a faucet? In my limited experience of old-house-sounds-that-set-your-internal-alarm-blaring, there is not.

That was how last Friday started for me, the weekend that our sons were due home for the Fourth and I had a million things to do, none of which included an emergency call to the plumber. But as I was in the shower, blissfully counting my blessings that the addition of our new roof had gone smoothly, my husband abruptly shut off MY shower and simultaneously announced "there's water pouring down from the ceiling in the study!" Hmmph.

In the grand scheme of things, it was a minor life hiccup. Our sons made it home, it was a low-key, pleasant holiday weekend, and the leak was fixed. Life goes on. Reading books make those low spots easier to bear and the good days so much brighter, don't they?
