Hey,
My friend and brother, Opeoluwa said something that hasn’t left my mind.
He said, “Stop trying to find balance. Find rhythm.”
And the more I thought about it, the more it made sense.
We’ve all heard it before.
“Find balance.”
“Balance your life.”
“Balance work and rest.”
“Balance hustle and sleep.”
And honestly, I used to believe that.
But balance, in real life, is almost impossible.
You don’t always have equal energy for everything.
You don’t always have equal time for everything.
You don’t always have equal capacity for everything.
And that’s not a failure.
That’s reality.
Life happens in seasons, not in straight lines.
There are seasons where your career will take 70% of you.
There are seasons where your family will take more of you.
There are seasons where your healing, your rest, your growth will take centre stage.
That’s not imbalance.
That’s rhythm.
When we were in school, our main assignment was academics.
That was the season.
That was the rhythm.
If you had a skill, you did it when you could.
Free periods.
Weekends.
Holidays.
You didn’t “balance” school and skill perfectly.
You flowed with what the season demanded.
That’s how real life works.
Personally, I know I’m a morning person.
From early morning till mid-afternoon, my mind is sharp.
That’s when I do my deepest work.
That’s when I think clearly.
That’s when I make the biggest decisions.
That is my rhythm.
I don’t force heavy work into the night just because “I should balance my day.”
I flow with what works.
Same thing with relationships.
Some seasons, you’ll see your friends every day.
Some seasons, it might be once in a while.
That doesn’t mean the relationship is weak.
It just means life has changed rhythm.
Balance is trying to force everything to have equal attention.
Rhythm is paying attention to what needs you most right now.
So instead of asking yourself,
“How do I balance my life?”
Ask yourself:
“What season am I in?”
“What deserves more of me right now?”
“Where is my energy highest?”
“What rhythm works for me?”
You don’t need balance.
You need awareness.
You need wisdom.
You need rhythm.
As you’re finishing this year strong and preparing to start the next one stronger, don’t pressure yourself to balance everything.
Find your flow.
Find your rhythm.
Move with it.
That’s where peace is.
By the way, my friend has a new episode of his podcast out. You should check it out on Youtube.
Your Fave,
Darasimi.
