You need both push and pull in your life

Growth needs wise people around you

Hey

One of the most underrated things in life and relationships is this:

You need both accelerators and brakes in your life.

Think about a car.

It has an accelerator to move forward.

It has brakes to slow down.

Both are equally important.

Some of us only like people who hype us.

People who push us.

People who motivate us.

People who make us feel like we’re doing amazing.

And while that is great, that is not complete.

You also need people who can look at you and say,

“This decision is wrong.”

“Slow down.”

“Think properly about this.”

“You’re heading in the wrong direction.”

And the funny part?

These people don’t always have to be older than you.

They don’t always have to be mentors.

They can be your friends.

There are friends in my life that don’t need to talk too much to push me.

I just look at what they’re building, how disciplined they are, how serious they are about their life, and it challenges me. It makes me want to do better without saying a word.

Those are accelerators.

Then there are friends that can call me out.

Not publicly.

Not disrespectfully.

But firmly.

They will ask me questions.

They will challenge my thinking.

They will tell me when I’m wrong.

Those are brakes.

And you need both.

Accelerators help you move faster.

Brakes keep you alive on the road.

A life with only accelerators crashes.

A life with only brakes never moves.

Your relationships should have balance.

You should be able to look around you and say:

“Who makes me better by their example?”

“Who tells me the truth when I’m about to mess up?”

If you don’t have both, you’re driving blind.

As you’re finishing this year strong and preparing to start the next one even stronger, this is one relationship audit you should do:

Who accelerates me?

Who grounds me?

Who can correct me?

Who can push me?

Your future is tied to the quality of people who can both push you and pull you back when needed.

Choose them wisely.
