It's been over 6 weeks since I sent you a mail and I hope you won't have any excuse to not read this one... at least, I gave you some space. LOL.
Seriously though, I never want to share anything with you except I consider it very valuable and useful. Every mail I send you holds a lot of value. It's up to you to unpack it.
Have you ever ignored a mail, only for you to discover much later that it contained crucial information - and it cost you so much?
Almost 9 years ago, I did something I never should have done.
We had just had our first child a couple of months earlier and my wife needed as much help as possible. My mother-in-law came around to help and I did as much as I knew to do to provide support.
One day, I was cleaning up and I found a black polythene bag in an unusual part of the house that had some other unimportant items. I picked it up and trashed it. I tidied up some other parts of the house too.
Days later, my wife started looking for some baby clothes. She searched everywhere to no avail. I joined in the search, but we couldn't find it.
She then explained that one of our friends had sent the clothes as a gift to son. Somehow, it had been packaged in the black polythene bag.
Wawauuuu... "Who packs baby clothes in a black bag?" I thought... and then it occurred to me that what I considered trash... was actually "TREASURE".
I had discarded a valuable gift. I ASSUMED that it was trash simply because of its packaging. What an error! What a waste!! I felt so bad :(
How many times have made the same mistake? How many times have we discarded our gifts, lost opportunities, destroyed relationships and lost time... just because we assumed we knew the content of a message, book, training, course or conversation.
How many times have we interpreted relationships through the lens of assumption, familiarity or error?
