The problem with quick fixes

At the weekend, my partner and I were chilling out watching a film called Groundswell.
It’s part of a series of documentaries about regenerative farming, modern agriculture, and how the way we produce food is damaging the soil, pushing more CO2 into the atmosphere, and affecting the long-term health of the planet.
It was a powerful watch.
One thing that really stood out to me was how much of modern farming is built around getting the biggest upside as quickly as possible.
More yield.
Fatter animals.
Faster production.
Higher turnover.
But the problem is that when you try to bypass nature, there is always a long-term cost.
The soil becomes depleted.
The land loses its ability to regenerate.
And eventually, the very foundation everything depends on starts to break down.
Regenerative farming works differently.
It takes longer.
You have to nurture the soil, work with nature, build the ecosystem, and create something that can sustain itself for years to come.
And that got me thinking about health and fitness.
Because so much of the fitness industry works exactly like modern farming.
Quick diets.
Extreme plans.
Training programmes that promise fast results.
Weight-loss injections.
The next shortcut.
And on paper, they sound exciting.
But what happens when you stop?
For a lot of people, the weight comes back. The habits disappear. The old routines return. And they end up back where they started, because the foundation was never really built.
This is something I see a lot.
People want to lose weight, get fitter, ride faster, climb better, and feel stronger on the bike.
But they often try to do it by chasing the fastest possible result, instead of learning the skills and habits that will help them stay fit, healthy, and strong for the rest of their life.
And this is why I’m so passionate about doing things properly.
With my clients, yes, we want results.
But the result is only one part of the journey.
The real goal is helping them build a foundation.
Better nutrition habits.
Smarter training.
More strength.
mproved recovery.
A structure that fits around real life, work, stress, family, and limited time.
That’s why many of my clients work with me for a year, then sign up again for another year.
Because they’re not just looking for another quick fix.
They’re learning how to build a body and lifestyle that supports their cycling, health, and confidence long term.
And while that might take longer, the payoff is much greater.
Because once you’ve built the foundation, you’re not constantly starting again.
You have the tools.
You have the habits.
You understand what works for you.
And you know how to maintain it.
So if you’re tired of quick fixes…
Whether that’s another generic Training Peaks plan, another diet, or another attempt to get fit as quickly as possible…
