why we have an obesity epidemic...

Hey

You know, the weekend was a bit of an eye-opener for me.

My partner and I decided to indulge in a bit of a treat. After a lovely walk around Hampstead Heath in London, we made our way to our favourite ice cream parlour, UDDERLICIOUS, in Covent Garden. It had been a while since we had our last scoop there, so we were pretty excited.

As we sat down snuggling our single-scoop cones, savouring each delicious lick, something caught my eye.

A family of four strolled in and each ordered a whopping three scoops of ice cream each. I kid you not, their portions were double ours, easy.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a delightful scene seeing the family enjoy their sweet treats together. But it got me thinking… Is more always better?

The kids’ ice cream portions were just as massive as the adults’. In the spirit of treating yourself, I wondered, 'Is this sensible?' Without a doubt, after gulping down those towering scoops, they must have felt a bit queasy, right?

Now, this isn't about ice cream shaming. It's about balance. My partner and I had our single scoop each. We enjoyed every bite, savoured the moment and left feeling just right. That, my friend, is the difference between maintaining a healthy weight and not.

You see, it’s not about giving up the foods you love. It’s about sensibly enjoying them. Because let's face it, too much of anything can backfire.

The same applies to cycling, work, rest, and virtually every aspect of life. Balance is key.

Finding your equilibrium, your sweet spot makes managing these areas of your life so much easier. The trick is not to overdo it.

So, ask yourself, how often do you go overboard?
