Small Steps, Big Progress: My Week 3 Cycle Lean Journey

I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel like I'm not making progress as quickly as I'd like.

Well, let me tell you about my Week 3 on the Cycle Lean journey. It's been a good one, and it's all about those small wins adding up.

After being away the previous weekend, I was eager to get back in the saddle.

And boy, did I make up for lost time!

I clocked around 105 miles this week – that's about 7 hours of quality time with my bike. Not too shabby, right?

But let me tell you about an interesting part of my week.

One of my coaching clients, Keith, was in London for his upcoming Palace to Palace event. So what did we do?

We hit Regent's Park for a couple of hours of easy riding and good conversation.

The weather wasn't exactly playing nice – windy and unpredictable – but isn't that just part of the cycling experience?

And of course, I've been making progress off the bike as well. I've been making solid progress in the gym, especially with my lunges. I've managed to increase the weights, which feels pretty good.

But you know what? I've also been nursing a bit of a cold. So what did I do?

I listened to my body. Instead of pushing through high-intensity intervals, I focused on Zone 2 rides.

I even took rest days on Wednesday and Friday.

And you know what? Sometimes the smartest thing to do is take it easy.

Now, let's talk nutrition for a second. I've been mixing things up a bit, swapping some of my usual porridge breakfasts for eggs on toast with tomato and mushrooms.

Simple, but packed with flavour.

My weight has stayed stable this week, but get this – I've gained around half a kilo of muscle and dropped a little bit of body fat.

So, what's the big takeaway from all this?

Progress isn't always about big jumps – sometimes the small wins matter most.

Listening to your body, training smart (not just hard), and being consistent with nutrition and recovery make the biggest difference over time.

Think about it. How often do we push ourselves too hard, thinking that's the only way to improve?

But what if I told you that sustainable progress comes from those small, consistent efforts?

It's about making smart choices, day in and day out.

It's about swapping a high-carb breakfast for a protein-rich one when your body needs it.

It's about choosing a Zone 2 ride over intervals when you're feeling under the weather.

It's about taking that rest day, even when you feel like you should be pushing harder.

These are the choices that add up over time. They're the choices that lead to lasting change, not just quick fixes.

So, here's my question to you: Are you ready to make those smart, sustainable choices in your own cycling journey?

If you're nodding your head right now, thinking, "Yes, I want that kind of progress," then I've got something for you.

If you're looking to build strength, improve your cycling, and create sustainable habits like this, why not join the Cycle Lean 1-2-1 coaching program?

You'll get the structure, accountability, and support you need to make progress that lasts.

Just imagine having someone in your corner, helping you make those smart training decisions.

Someone to guide you through the ups and downs, celebrate your small wins, and keep you on track for those big goals.

That's what Cycle Lean 1-2-1 coaching is all about. It's not just about riding harder – it's about riding smarter. It's about building habits that stick, and seeing progress that lasts.

So, what do you say? Are you ready to start your own journey of small wins and big progress?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Neil
