What Bad Sisters Taught Me About Staying Focused on What Matters
If you haven't seen it, the show follows five sisters in Ireland.
The story opens at the funeral of one of the sisters' husbands, who has passed away.
And without spoiling anything, let's just say the husband was pretty awful.
The sisters really disliked him; the way he treated his wife and those around him was just dark and unpleasant.
Over the weekend, my partner and I decided to finally finish Bad Sisters on Apple TV.
We'd started it before Christmas but got caught up with the holidays and never quite made it past the first few episodes. So we thought, why not pick it back up and see how the story unfolded?
It's genuinely a well-made programme.
The writing is sharp, the performances are compelling, and you can see why so many people have been talking about it.
But we actually ended up stopping partway through. I know that might sound strange - a good show, and we just quit. But let me explain.
As we worked through the episodes, we started to notice something.
The lying, the cheating, the manipulation, the constant hurt between characters, it was starting to make us feel more anxious and negative than we'd like to feel.
It reminded me of when we tried Ozark on Netflix. We got a few episodes in before stopping because it felt too violent and intense.
Bad Sisters ended up having the same fate. Not because it wasn't good. But because of how it made us feel.
And that's when something clicked for me.
We live in a world that already feels more negative than ever.
The news cycle is relentless. Social media is designed to keep you scrolling through comparison and outrage. And honestly? You can't avoid everything.
But here's what you can do: you can manage your environment. You can be intentional about what you expose yourself to.
For me, that's meant avoiding the news, unfollowing social media accounts that drain my energy, and steering clear of content that leaves me feeling anxious.
By removing noise that has no real impact on my day-to-day life, noise I can't control anyway — I feel happier.
Mentally lighter. More present with my partner. Better able to show up for my clients.
And crucially, I have the mental space to focus on what actually matters:
building better habits around my health, my finances, my business, and my goals.
The clarity that comes from removing the noise? It's remarkable.
Suddenly, you can think clearly. You can explore new ideas. You can move toward your goals without constant distraction pulling you in a hundred different directions.
So here's my question for you: what noise are you letting into your life right now?
If you have goals this year, and I'm guessing you do, one of the best things you can do is remove the noise.
The negativity. The distractions. The "quick-fix" messages that knock you off course and keep you spinning your wheels.
That's where 1-to-1 coaching comes in. Most people know what they want to achieve.
What they're missing is the support, the structure, and the accountability to stay focused and consistent.
That's exactly what I help with. Together, we'll cut through the noise, clarify your priorities, and build a plan that actually works.
