This is why your winter training is finally paying off

This weekend reminded me exactly why structured training matters.
I’ve just got back from a week cycling in Mallorca, long climbs, solid volume, and plenty of time in the saddle. (I’ll break that down properly in Friday’s newsletter.)
But what stood out even more wasn’t my riding…
It was my clients’ results.
This is the time of year where the work you’ve put in over winter starts to show.
And two moments this weekend really hit that home.
First—Isabel.
She took on the Barry Roubaix over in the US. A race she’s never really enjoyed in the past.
Wet conditions. Gravel. Tough start.
But this time?
She rode one of her best events.
She told me she was steadily passing riders after the halfway point, people who had gone out too hard and completely blown up.
And the best part?
She executed the exact race strategy we’d discussed beforehand.
That’s not luck. That’s preparation.
Then there’s John.
He’s heading into the Tour de Manc this week, so we tested his FTP.
Six months ago, he was sitting around 160.
This week?
206 watts
That’s a 46-watt improvement.
Not from doing more…
But from doing the right work.
Structured sessions. Purposeful training. Consistency.
And this is the bit most riders miss:
Progress doesn’t come from just riding harder or longer.
It comes from riding with intent.
Because right now…
You’ve got two options.
You either:
→ Keep doing the same rides, hoping things improve
Or:
→ Start training in a way that actually moves you forward
Because it’s not too late to make progress this season.
Not even close.
If you want to ride stronger, feel fitter, and actually see results from your time on the bike.
I can help you do that.
