Back in the Saddle: Lessons from Our Zwift Reunion

Mar 26, 2025 8:31 am

Remember our regular Zwift cafe rides? Well, after a few weeks of radio silence, we finally managed to get the gang back together yesterday for a virtual spin.

And let me tell you, it was just what the doctor ordered!

A few of us from the Cycle Lean community hopped onto Zwift and tackled the Casse-Pattes route in France. It's a nice, flat course with a steady climb towards the end – perfect for getting back into the groove.

But you know what made the ride truly special? The chatter and laughter in our Discord voice channel.

There's something magical about catching up with friends while pedaling away, isn't there? It's like the hour just flies by!

As we rode and chatted, an interesting topic came up that I bet many of you can probably relate to.

We started talking about the struggle to fit in as much cycling as we'd like around work and other life commitments. Sound familiar?

It's a common challenge, especially when you're working towards a weight loss goal.

You might feel like you're taking two steps forward and one step back when your riding frequency drops from four days a week to barely squeezing in one ride.

But here's the thing – your fitness journey doesn't have to come to a screeching halt just because your saddle time decreases.

Take Keith, for example. Despite the recent lull in group rides, he managed to drop below 100 kg for the first time since his 20s this week!

And then there's Laurent, who nabbed the third-fastest time at his velodrome session, even though he hasn't been riding as much lately. How's that for inspiration?

So, what's their secret?

It's about focusing on being healthy in all aspects of your life.

Remember, cycling is just one piece of the puzzle.

The key lesson here is simple: concentrate on the things you can control every day.

Get good sleep, keep a handle on your diet, and stay as active as you can off the bike.

Take a walk during your lunch break, use the stairs instead of the elevator, or do a quick bodyweight workout in your living room.

These small actions add up!

By maintaining these healthy habits, you're setting yourself up for success when you do get back in the saddle.

You'll be leaner, healthier, and ready to get the best out of yourself on the bike.

No extra pounds weighing you down or making those climbs more difficult than they need to be.

Isn't that what we all want? To feel strong, confident, and ready to tackle any ride that comes our way?

And as we look ahead to summer, it's a great time to start getting ready for those rides.

Can you picture yourself slipping into your favorite cycling kit, feeling lean and powerful as you clip in for a beautiful sunny ride?
