Losing weight won't necessarily make you a faster climber.

Hey

Losing weight won't necessarily make you a faster climber.

It might even slow you down.

Here's why:

In the world of cycling, you often witness slender athletes clad in lycra effortlessly ascending hills like mountain goats.

While carrying less weight can indeed make your cycling experience more manageable, it shouldn't necessarily be your ultimate goal, especially if you're a cyclist over 40.

So, what should your focus be on?

Well, it should revolve around building more muscle and shedding excess body fat.

After the age of 40, we tend to lose around 1% of our muscle mass each year.  Consequently, this decrease in muscle mass slows down your metabolism, making it more challenging to maintain a healthy body fat percentage.

As a result, you might notice an increase in body fat or weight – however you prefer to think of it.

This challenge only intensifies as you age. Yet, the sooner you begin addressing the balance between fat and muscle mass in your body, the easier your future in cycling and life, in general, will be.

You'll become more powerful and reduce your risk of injury, which tends to increase with age.

Moreover, it's never too late to start. Regardless of your age beyond 40, incorporating more weight training into your weekly routine can lead to significant improvements in your cycling performance.

In addition to this, understanding how to efficiently fuel your body can help you shed any excess body fat you may be carrying and perform at your best.

Achieving this merely involves making a few conscious changes to your diet, reducing the need for snacking, overeating, and binge eating after long rides.

These strategies, combined with techniques for boosting your energy before cycling, maintaining peak performance during your rides, effective weight management, and post-ride refuelling, will all be covered in our in-depth nutrition workshop.

The workshop will be conducted online via Zoom on Wednesday, November 29th, at 8 p.m. Furthermore, everyone who registers will gain lifetime access to the workshop's recording.

Register before November 18th and enjoy a 20% discount using the code "EMAIL20," along with a host of other available benefits.
