A Frosty Breeze Blends With Winter's Ice ❄️

Welp, this week's almost over, and it's been a hectic one in C.L. Carhart's household. My husband's mother passed away unexpectedly early this week, so we're making arrangements to visit his side of the family at the end of June.

My husband's mother was not particularly respectful to either my husband or myself, so if you've got condolences to express, we'll be sure pass them on to those who knew better sides of her. 💖

As it stands, my writing schedule has gone out the window for now, so Magical Gift won't be ready in time for my planned release date of June 20th. My hope is to get Sylvia's love story finished and ready for you at the beginning of July.

In the meantime, two of the full-length standalone novels in my Elemental Bloodlines series are discounted for the month of June, so now's the time to take a journey into the Austrian Alps and meet a conclave of young Teuton witches searching for lifelong partners.

Skye's Search For Peace

Gift of Wind introduces Skye, a witch of wintry wind who spent a handful of years far away from Teuton lands after escaping an abusive relationship. She just found out her long lost muse, Karl, has settled down in the resort village of Wildertal to reconnect with his family and childhood friends. Skye decides to meet him there to find out whether he's willing to give their relationship another chance...even though she's battling a crippling case of PTSD.

Gift of Wind is the perfect Teuton tale to read if you want to beat the heat. Not only does it take place in winter, both Skye and Karl wield frigid elements.

As the story that happens last in the Elemental Bloodlines timeline, it also offers the chance to meet some Teuton children and experience family life in Wildertal. If you read Gift of Darkness already, you know Amira wanted to be a mother after she became a witch. In Gift of Wind, you'll experience a few scenes where she's caring for her magical children! 😊

Another fun thing about Gift of Wind is that it's one of three books in Elemental Bloodlines that's written dual perspective. So you'll get to delve into Karl's brain just as much as Skye's. (Yep, this series destroyed any consistency I tried to have when it came to point-of-view. Oh well, it keeps things interesting!)

Garden Update

A few years ago, I discovered I enjoy tending plants in my yard—particularly edible plants. Since then I've learned that the major problem we have in our part of South Carolina involves BUGS 🪲 who enjoy nibbling on the plants in my garden! This year I've been combating the critters with diatomaceous earth, which goes only so far when you have to water every day.

Apparently there's some sort of bug that loves to chow down on bell peppers. Last year I think my husband and I managed to harvest maybe 4 bell peppers (and we had 6 plants total...lost at least a dozen peppers). So this year I had this bright idea to plant only hot peppers. Maybe bugs can't handle the heat?

Welp.

Apparently they're okay with the heat of hot banana peppers. 😢

But so far they've left our cherry hot peppers and cowhorn peppers alone. They haven't touched the Thai hot peppers either...although my husband and I aren't sure yet whether those might be a little too spicy for us. 🔥

I've also planted a bunch of nasturtiums and marigolds in hopes of bothering and/or distracting the bugs. Whether that's working or not, I can't say, but the marigolds offer a bright burst of color!

If you're the kind of person who wants to try eating "unusual" stuff, I'll have you know that nasturtium leaves don't taste like much. Can use them like lettuce in a salad. Also, they claim day lilies are tasty, but I think that must be true only if you cook them...because the flower petals taste like literally nothing! 😆

Are you growing any garden stuff this summer? Send me a reply and let me know! Do you have to fight against bugs or deer? Or something else entirely? Gardeners unite for a gripe session—I'm here for it!
