š Welcome, ARC readers! š
Our numbers went from 2 to 24, which is major cause for celebration! š
I'm so glad you're excited about reading & reviewing the final book in Swanie's saga. I've been loitering in Swanie's brain for so longāover a year during the publishing processāthat I can hardly believe it's finally time to move on.
You'll be getting a personal link to Numinous Fortune from BookFunnel within a few hours. This is my first time ever sending "certified mail" through BookFunnel, and that means you're my test subject. š±
Fingers crossed that it runs smoothly!
⨠Basics for readers new to Teutonic magic āØ
If you haven't read any of the other books in Swanie's saga yet, never fear! While the series is interconnected, I've done my best to give enough background info in each book for them to stand alone.
Teutons: A conclave of people typically found in southern Germany and western Austria. According to tradition, their ancestors made a pact with a demon millennia ago, and in return the Teutons obtained various types of magic passed down through their blood. If a Teuton mates with an outsiderāGerman or otherwiseāany offspring of such trysts cannot wield Teutonic magic.
Teutonic magic: The standard magic that your everyday Teuton wields derives from the elementsāfor example, Swanie's primary element is ice, while Augustin's is blue fire. Teutons also wield powers over blood and spirit, but few aside from priests and witches delve into magic of that sort.
A note on Teuton "history": While the Teutons move in secret among us, the major events mentioned in Swanie's storyālike the Saxon invasion of the Teuton kingdom in the 11th centuryāare utter fantasy, not actual historical events. This ain't Outlander, people. š
The filial curse: A Teutonic spell cast very rarely that renders its victim undead and exiled from family & the Teuton community. Teutons who are under the filial curse are referred to as Black Priests or Cursed Ones. Swanie's one true love Augustin faced the filial curse in Mystic Passage, the 2nd book in the series.
Ritual suicide: The only way a time-traveling Teuton can truly dieāas in entering heaven or hellāwhile in a past timeline.
Swanie's situation in Numinous Fortune
One more copy-paste for the blurb:
So much for the concept of free will. One of Augustinās tomes claims I have to return to the eleventh century one last time. To die. With the Prince who betrayed me and broke his vows.
But Iām not ready to surrender my life just yet.
I spent twenty long years apart from Augustin in the modern era, and I refuse to accept the Prince as my fated mate in death. There must be some way to shatter this insidious bond once and for all, and Augustin believes itās possible. Iāll give anything to regain his devotion after two decades of separation.
Itās time to challenge our demon lord on equal ground . . . .
š„° Please Talk To Me! š„°
Before you start reading, I want to remind you that I'm not rich enough to have a PA or VA answering my emails. What you're seeing now is C.L. Carhart alone. If you have any questions at all about Numinous Fortune or have the urge to chat about the book with me, feel free to reply to THIS email. (Not the one you'll get later with the BookFunnel link. I might not see replies to that one.)
I love to know what readers think of this wild fantasy realm that bounces around in my brain. It's a realm that can be both frustrating and beautiful, and I do hope you enjoy walking beside Swanie as she works to bend destiny to her will. š
