#91 – How do you keep your peace of mind?

"I don't mind anything at all*."
Neal Allen

Can I get there?

I think I can, at least when it comes to my own worries—will I finish my to-do list, will my taxes skyrocket if I get too many payers, or should I rewrite my website or just un-publish it.

But when it comes to world problems, issues that don’t touch me directly, can I really unplug? Is it possible to "not mind anything at all?"

My first reaction is, wouldn’t that be self-centered? To not think of those who are suffering?

Ah! But here’s the distinction: thinking of others in pain, extending love, is one thing. Worrying about problems I don’t have the capacity to solve is another.

The first feels spacious, light, warm. The second has hard edges and spikes, because it’s the Ego at work—frustrated because it can’t control what’s out of its hands.

In reality, worrying has never solved anything. So why do we insist on feeding it?

What could you take off your mind today that would give you peace?

Love,

Carolina

PS: This Neal Allen quote comes from this interview I heard with Anne Lamott, in which she mentioned how her husband (Neal Allen) kept his peace of mind.
