How do you know it's time to re-commit?

#347 – How do you know it's time to re-commit?
You committed to your goal. Putting yourself on the hook was energizing. You felt magnetic, radiant, indefatigable.
Then life happened. You slowly started to pile things on top of your commitment, and one day, you could no longer see it.
Good, you thought, because it was making you feel icky.
But you kept repeating, "I am committed. I commit to my [blank]," magically thinking that the words would keep it alive, even if you did nothing about it.
This was me. I've been working long hours every day for pay. Hey, I don't complain: it's interesting, well paid work––in my zone of competence, the small box where I do great work that doesn't involve my soul.
Day after day, though, I noticed my energy dwindle. My initial desire to stay in my zone of genius, which I'd committed to, was replaced with a sort of brain-fry. All I wanted to do was sleep––or at least watch bad TV.
Not even receiving my four-figure weekly pay brought my spirit up. Is this what I longed for?
So last night, I decided to re-commit. Not because I felt guilty, but because my energy was sneaking out of me.
And this morning, I went back to my path: meditation, gym, morning pages, and writing this piece. Then, I'll work for money.
Because unless I take the actions that prove my commitment to keeping my creative self alive, it'll fade away.
And when it does, all the money in the world will be worthless because all I'll feel is empty. I'll have faded away.
What will you re-commit to, to keep your creative self alive, and in your zone of genius?
Love,
Carolina
