#174 – How will respecting your True Self change your experience?

For years, I was stuck in my father's comment from 1983. At 13, I interpreted his words ("to be a writer, you need to know a lot of things") as proof that I couldn't write – I didn't know enough.

My True Self said, "who cares how much you know? Just write!" but my Ego rolled its eyes and shook its head, eyebrows lifted and stretched lips: "Right – now you know more than your father, huh?"

This pattern runs deep. As children, we learn that adults know best. Their opinions become our compass, demagnetizing out our inner guidance.

Each time we ignore our True Self, we step further from who we really are. We look outside for answers that are already within. We seek validation from mentors and teachers instead of respecting what we know inside.

Even random events become proof we're wrong. Get fired from a job we chose against other people's advice? Must have been the "wrong" choice. But here's a reframe: following our True Self led us exactly where we needed to go – even through apparent failure.

When we start granting our inner voice the same respect we once reserved for others, our experience of life transforms. Each choice that aligns with our True Self moves us closer to who we're meant to be, regardless of the outcome, or what others might say.

Then we become grateful for every choice guided by our True Self – no matter the result.

In what ways might have you disrespected your True Self, and made yourself unhappy?

Love,

Carolina
