#295 – Is your mind a true democracy?

I don't know of anyone, personally, who doesn't believe democracy is the most beneficial form of governance.

But I know many people (myself included, if I'm not vigilant) who allow their minds to be governed like a dictatorship.

A dictatorial inner government:

  • categorizes thoughts and feelings as "bad," "good," "scary," "lovely"
  • silences, ignores, or refuses to hear thoughts and feelings that fall into the "negative" category
  • idolizes and plays on repeat thoughts and feelings that fall into the "positive" category
  • punishes people for harboring certain thoughts or feelings, making them sad, lonely, sorry, worried, afraid...
  • distracts people with superfluous stuff when they rebel against the "norm"

Dictatorial states rely on a prominent figure that self-proclaims as the protector of law and order, and an army of sycophants that blindly follow orders and yessir to all demands. In your mind (and mine), those are the Ego and the Army of Ghosts.

In contrast, a truly democratic mind:

  • sees all thoughts and feelings as members of the society, without placing them into separate boxes
  • respects, hears, and sees any and every feeling and thought, regardless of where they come from, their color, or the sensations they cause
  • doesn't assign superior privileges to even extremely pleasant thoughts or feelings
  • understands that all sorts of thoughts and feelings are a natural aspect of life and never punishes anyone for having them
  • doesn't demand loyalty and allows people to change any time they want

Truly democratic states rely on sincerity and dialogue.

On the congruence of being true to oneself, without compulsory loyalties to the Ego or the Ghosts.

They don't require blind following of the orders of those whose goal is to stall and silence you with the excuse of "safety."

The thing is that, in any state, silenced voices end up taking revenge. So, either you allow all the voices inside your mind to speak out, or they'll raise up in arms against you one day.

But when you just let them be and express themselves, they quiet down on their own, knowing that you've heard them.

What inner voices that you've been suppressing will you hear in an assembly now so they don't haunt you later?

Love,

Carolina
