What pushes you under the weather?

#390 – What pushes you under the weather?

When you're on the verge of a big leap, fear may strike back, in a last attempt to stop you from entering the unknown.

One of the ways it does it is by making you ill, an effort carried out by the Ghost of Physical Ailments (GoPA).

Placing a warm palm on your forehead, as your mom did whenever your fever was real (and not just a plot to stay in your PJs all day instead of sitting in a classroom fighting long division), the GoPA promises to take care of you.

"Shush," it whispers as it fluffs your pillow, "no need to go out there because you're sick."

You relax and forget about the world for just one day (or until the sickness goes away). You can't do anything––not even think. Too bad if that potentially life-changing project has to be put on hold... indefinitely!

And just like that, you've adopted the identity of someone whose poor health prevents them from taking a big leap––and the GoPA has earned its bonus.

Now, I'm not saying sickness is imaginary or self-created. What I'm advocating is that you not give in to the Ghost. Thank it but politely decline its verdict. Keep believing in the possibility of health.

Rest when you need it, but don't give up on yourself.

What physical ailments will you stop believing in so they don't stop you?

Love,

Carolina
