Does the Universe really hear your thoughts?

#186 – Does the Universe really hear your thoughts?
If I send the message to the Universe that I want to make $240K per year, does it hear it? And what if I harbor some doubts? Is my desire erased just because a tiny, barely noticeable thought entered my consciousness?
That wouldn't be fair, or humanly possible (I mean, who doesn't harbor some doubts sometimes?), yet there are many people who claim it happens – be careful what you think/what you wish for, they say.
In May of 2024 I was desperate because my wishes for making $240K per year with my coaching business weren't materializing. Then, in a group call, a business coach asked me, "why do you want to make that money?" And when I told her, she said, "I don't believe you."
I started to wonder: am I lying to myself? Is my self-awareness so low that I don't even know what I want the money for? And, do I really want the money?
A few weeks later, on a group call with my dear and admired Barbara Huson, I admitted, "I don't know how to make money." When she probed further, I found myself saying, "I'm not even writing, which is the thing I love the most."
Then, I understood. Coaching was just one more smoke screen I'd chosen as a cover, one more substitute because I didn't believe I could make money through writing. But I had it backwards – coaching wasn't going to be how I made money. Maybe writing is.
This year, I commit to making money with my writing. Maybe it's not the $240K I dreamed of (maybe it's more, maybe it's less). But I'm making this commitment: this is the year I'm "turning pro" – to use Steven Pressfield's expression. I will earn money with my writing.
What commitment to yourself are you making in the new year?
Love,
Carolina
