#87 – How to balance trust with working toward your future?
One could argue, if you truly trusted, why work toward your future?
That’s the wrong question.
Because trust isn’t magical thinking or "hopium," as we discussed yesterday.
What are the right questions, then?
1. How do you work toward your future in a way that aligns with your True Self and not your Ego?
The True Self takes grounded action, with a momentous yet unhurried energy.
The Ego, though, craves control—either obsessing over details or pushing you to jump off a cliff with your eyes closed.
When the True Self leads, work nourishes you.
When I was working on my PhD dissertation, people would ask, "How’s your thesis going?" They’d be surprised when I said, "I'm having fun!"
For many, the PhD process is grueling, driven by societal approval and the belief that their self-worth hinges on academic success.
Curiosity and the love for my topic drove me.
2. How do you avoid comparing yourself to others?
The True Self sees no competition. It knows others can excel – and so can we.
The Ego views success as limited, framing it as an either/or scenario: either A has success, or B has it.
Comparison stems from duality, which only the Ego perceives.
I once had a client who avoided reading young writers because it made him jealous, believing their success diminished his potential to become a writer.
3. And how do you avoid sitting on your hands, waiting for your ideal future?
The True Self loves the process, even when it's hard. When you're working toward your purpose, you're in flow: fully engaged, present. Your mind's focused, which makes you happy.
Even when it's hard (and it is), you do the work because you have to. And you feel accomplish just doing it, regardless of the outcome.
The Ego punishes you for not meeting its expectations.
If you end up "hating" the work and believing it isn’t guiding you toward your purpose, know it's only a distraction. Above all, your Ego doesn't want you to change.
And working toward your purpose will change you.
How do you make sure you take grounded action every day while trusting the process?
Love,
Carolina
