#90 – What can you see when you change your glasses?

If turning the lights off allows us to see what's truly there, sometimes all we need is a change of perspective.

Yesterday, a $30K strategic advisory deal that had already been signed by the client fell through. My business partner and I were disappointed, but he was able to salvage a portion of it – precisely the portion that fits my skills: strategic communication and writing.

After coaching leaders on how to use their voice and speech for 13 years, in 2012 I wanted to broaden the impact of my work. As I later wrote in my application for the Master's program in Corporate Communication at New York University, I wanted to go "from granular to strategic," from "how to deliver a message" to "what message to deliver."

This morning, as I was getting ready for the client meeting, I saw it with surprising clarity: I can't help but be grateful because everything – even the deal that fell through – has brought me to this moment.

The initial deal was a comprehensive "investment readiness" analysis and pitch deck preparation.

The piece that remains? The strategic messaging the client will deliver through their corporate communication.

This shift in perspective made me realize that every experience – from my desire to come to the US, to working as a Grad Assistant at NYU, teaching Public Speaking at CUNY, my time at a communication consulting firm in New York, and even my "failed" coaching business – was essential in leading me to this moment, where I am a strategic communication advisor for a company and its CEO.

Every step was necessary for my path to unfold under my feet.

What could you see if you changed your glasses instead of resisting each unexpected turn?

Love,

Carolina
