#521 – What untruths does your Ego push you to cling to?
For the Ego, clinging to injustice, blaming, and victimization are a way of life. For you, they're the death of your consciousness.
On January 7, the blatant lies about the video of the ICE agent shooting and killing a woman in Minneapolis sent me down a spiral of hatred, anger, and powerlessness. This was what "the system" had done to my son: when the judge was shown the CCTV footage, he'd chosen to see "a vicious attack" instead of the reality––a 19 year old defending himself from a grown up man who'd chased him, prevented him from leaving the premises, and forcefully pulled him out of the elevator.
Every time I saw yet another post about Renee Nicole Good, I sensed my Ego (whom I'd mistaken for my Self) go grrr!, clenching its fists and stomping its feet.
To make matters worse, my Ghost of Misplaced Shame kicked my behind, telling me this was my occasion to tell the world the grave injustice we too had been subjected to. I was getting more and more inflamed and wanted to do YouTube videos, go to the media, start a revolution.
Until I spoke with my son.
He said, "just let it go."
"Yeah, but..."
"It doesn't matter," he cut me off. "What happened in the past isn't going to change because you get mad at someone. When you continue to carry the past around with you, you're only hurting yourself. You're not allowing yourself to be happy, and for what?"
Then I understood: clinging to the injustice is a false refuge, as is hating "the system" and seeking revenge. We know the truth (about my son's case and the killing of Renee Nicole Good), and that's what matters.
What truth matters to you that doesn't satisfy your Ego?
Love,
Carolina
