How is your "just in case" attitude ruining your potential?

#396 – How is your "just in case" attitude ruining your potential?
In the present, the future is unknown.
That drives your Ego and the Ghosts nuts: if not everything's planned to a T, they freak out and push you to do the same.
If you give in, though, you're telling yourself that yeah, unpredictability sucks. And that you better get ready for the potential "case" something goes off plan.
The cost? You close yourself to the infinite potential life may present you with.
When my husband and I were planning to move to the US, we sold everything we had in Madrid. A few of our family members recommended that we keep our apartment––just in case.
I refused: just in case what?
They meant well: just in case things didn't go well for us (re: we couldn't get work permits, work, etc.).
And they were right: things didn't always go "well," in the sense of "easy," "predictable." It was difficult. When my son was told by the neighbor that spaniards are stupid. When the immigration lawyer said I had no chance to get a green card. When I left a six-figure job because the value mismatch was too big.
The "just in case," back-pocket, Plan B would've provided a sally, an easy exit.
But when you go out without going through, what do you learn? How do you grow?
You don't. Staying open to the possibility of failing is what keeps you open to the possibility of succeeding.
What "just in case" preparedness are you willing to leave behind so that you open up to life's true potential?
Love,
Carolina
