Did your date meet your expectations?

#223 – Did your date meet your expectations?

Even if you didn't go on a date last night, you've had that experience: you're so looking forward to an event and you have such high expectations, that the reality leaves you "meh."

Behind all disappointment is the Ghost of Clinging to Useless Possessions.

By comparing your present with some idealized experience you stored in your mind (a useless possession), it makes you lukewarm about anything you live through. Which makes you reminisce the past even more strongly, which fuels the Ghost.

How can you end that cycle? You stop clinging. You let go of everything in your mind that belongs to the past: the beautiful experiences and the unpleasant ones.

This opens your mind and your heart to live every new experience in full. It allows you to stay present in your life, minute by minute.

So this date is a new date and there's nothing to compare it to.

You let go of the "Proustian madeleine" that ties you to the past, so that each muffin you bite into is completely new and unique.

How will letting go of past "madeleines" and approaching life with fresh eyes deepen your experience?

Love,

Carolina
