Who wants you to "look good?"

#172 – Who wants you to "look good?"
Early in my career as a voice teacher for singers and actors, I noticed a pattern: some of them were too concerned about how they looked while performing.
Instead of connecting with the song or the scene on a deep, emotional level, it seemed like they were trying to sound cute, sexy, rough or whatever they thought would generate the greater impact.
And precisely because they thought, there was little truth in their performance.
That's how the Ghost of Need to Prove keeps us disconnected from the truth of our present reality. Like a rather incompetent coach, it advises us to focus on the outcome instead of the process.
It urges us to look a certain way, prompting us, "Prove you're funny – make'em laugh!" Or, "Prove you're smart – make'em think!" Or (as it was telling me a few seconds ago), "Prove you're an erudite – show'em your vast classic film culture!"
When we fall into that trap, that's it: we're disconnected – disconnected – from others, from ourselves, from the present moment.
Where can your connections grow deeper by ditching the Ghost of Need to Prove's advice?
Love,
Carolina
