#92 – Worrying is useless – but how useful is striving?
The idea of striving has a strong reputation in the world of work and performance. "We strive for excellence." "Strive for progress, not for perfection," etcetera.
But how useful is it, really, and where does it lead us? Does it make us more alive, happier, more fulfilled? Or does it lead us to permanently chase a fleeting sense of satisfaction?
The word striving seems to include an idea of fight. Because maybe it is a fight: an internal struggle between your True Self and your Ego. "Striving" suggests you're doing something that in a way goes against your nature.
What if we shifted from "striving" to "allowing to unfold?"
Instead of, "I strive to write an insightful email every day," I can think, "Every day I sit down to write an email where I allow an insight to unfold."
Instead of, "Strive for excellence," you can say, "Do work that matters to you and do it with your whole self."
Instead of, "Strive for progress," choose, "Give yourself space to grow and become what your True Self is meant to become."
"Allowing to unfold" keeps us in the certainty that whatever quality we want to exhibit, it's within our nature, a part of our True Self.
Or do you think a bird strives to fly?
What would be available to you if you allowed your True Self to unfold instead of "striving?"
Love,
Carolina
