How to discover your gift and what to do after that.....

Two things happened to me this week to reinforce my belief in the fact that gifts are God-given.

First one - I belong to a group of women and we decided to host a summer camp for our kids to occupy them this month. As we started drawing it up, we thought to add our nieces and nephews. And as the plans matured, we decided to throw it open.

At the beginning, when we were asked what we could teach, I immediately said I could teach writing. We were asked to send video pitches to be chosen. This was a group where I wasn't so visible. I had a whim and sent in a video. Things moved fast and the camp started.

So this past week, I had my first two classes - one for age 10-12 and another to ages 16-19. I cannot tell you how it felt! It was so good, I felt so at home, the children enjoyed it and were so engaging. Their parents sent in their feedback - all good! I gave them assignments and as I read their pieces, I wanted to cry.

People, I've found my gift!

No. Let me correct that. I've found another expression of my gift.

I've always known that Writing is one of my gifts and Teaching is another. But I have never thought of teaching children. Interesting how I can develop influence or another stream of income from here.

The second thing that happened - I was interviewed by a young man Josh Matiluko on Saturday on his program, On The Couch with Josh. He asked me a question "How do you discover your gift? And what do you do when you discover it?"

This is what I told him and his audience - "To find your gift, ask yourself what is that one thing you do effortlesslessy, that people always compliment you for?" It could be something obvious like cooking, baking, dancing, singing, painting etc. It could be softer gifts like listening, counselling, teaching, negotiating, persuasion, preaching, organising, humor, vibes etc.
