Why you should watch Big Brother.... or not.

I went to see a friend on saturday. What was supposed to be a flying visit (to drop off some goods) ended up being a full- fledged visit including lunch of pounded yam and egusi soup.
While waited, the television was tuned to Big Brother Nigeria. As one who doesn't care for the programme, I started the usual "Big Brother should not be encouraged..." lecture. She said it was an entertaining programmme and it was a way to stardom for otherwise unknown youths. I was waiting for my lunch, as she had offered to make me a meal of pounded yam and egusi (my absolute favourite), and so I starred mindlessly at the tv.
What I saw was both surprising and intriguing at the same time. The housemates had been given a task to come up with a TV commercial for TravelBeta, one of their sponsors. They were put in groups of four and each given a local destination to prepare for. With no access to the internet for research, and no prior heads up, they showed their creativity and wowed me with their presentations! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would never have thought I would be saying this.
Now, this is not an advert for Big Brother, and certainly not an attempt to make you start watching it. I am not even fully convinced myself that it is a good way to spend my time.
The point of my story, though, is that nothing is totally bad. No one is totally useless. Never write something off on the strength of just what others say. Experience it yourself and make an informed decision.
The truth is that most of us will never live long enough to experience everything ourselves, so we have to rely on what others say sometimes. But in the most important of matters, remember to judge for yourself. Don't inherit grudges just because. Life is too short.
Today, I pray for you...
that you will have the courage to change the things about your life that you can,
the serenity to accept the things you cannot change,
and the wisdom to know the difference!
It's a new week.... I'm rooting for you as always!
