Hello ,
As a process engineer, you know how crucial check valves are for preventing reverse flow and keeping your systems running smoothly. However, I wanted to highlight a common issue with traditional swing check valves that can seriously disrupt operations.
The problem is something called "check valve slam" - when the valve disc violently slams shut against the seat. This causes damaging pressure shockwaves known as water hammer.
I recently published an in-depth article explaining this phenomenon and what are the applications where a non-slam check valves is needed.
In the article, I cover:
- How check valve slam occurs in swing check designs
- The risks of water hammer like pipe fatigue and ruptures
- How non-slam checks use an internal spring to prevent slam
- Key applications where non-slam checks are critical
- Factors to consider when selecting valves
Understanding and mitigating check valve slam can prevent tremendous process disruptions and equipment damage over time. I highly recommend checking out the full article for crucial insights.

Please let me know if you have any other questions! I'm always happy to discuss ways we can optimize piping systems and avoid flow control hazards.
Have a nice weekend!
