Life is draining so recharge.

This week has been more exhausting than I expected. I knew I had a bunch of chores to do around the house, and that I needed to really bust my butt to be able to run away Easter weekend. I wasn't expecting one of my best friends husbands to die. Death is inevitable for all of us, but not at 50 and unexpected. So my plans for this week have the addition of doing everything I can to support her, which if you've lost a loved one you know no one can stop the pain. All I can do is be there for her.

The worst part - I still need my break. I need a while to grieve for my friend, to recharge my batteries, and to not be anything.

I need to remember this is a marathon, and I still have a long way to go. At least 30 years.

So the news of the week: I'm working on a novella for Jo & Sable, contract is signed for audio of Educated Luck (and I'm STILL fighting to get My Luck on Audible), Inherited Luck is up for pre-order, and I'm over 30k into Drafted Luck. See all things to give you hope. Now if I could just figure out how to use Goodreads - that is on my list for my mini vacay weekend.

But you still need things to read - and so do I. I mean if you find some awesome books let me know. I need more to read. But in the meantime I have a TON of books to point you to this week.

Up first is a book set for you. I have to say I've never seen any books with the main characters being sherpa's and set on/in/under (prepositions are important) Mount Everest. This is a huge amount of story for a good price. This is in my TBR pile and I just need more hours in the week. Try it out and see if you like what you read.

Then I've got some more UF. Black Sanctuary is book one of series and it is FREE. Yes you heard me. Go grab this reader magnet now and maybe get addicted to a new series.

Then there is Wings of Fire. This is book 1 of a four book (so far) series where the main character is a phoenix. I love phoenixes. If I didn't already know what my next tattoo is going to be, I might get a phoenix.

That is about all I have going on (I think that is enough don't you?). But because I don't want you to be bored (yes I regard boredom as the true evil) here is a mini story for you. Don't forget you can read No Luck if you want to find out what happened to Charles and Daniela.

FOOD

The mouse stuck its nose out of the small burrow created by decay. The strange two-legged muttered and burned foul smelling concoctions. No food that direction. The mouse scurried towards the food table. Maybe enough fruit or bread for a day or two. 

Hugging the shadows, the mouse scampered up the table leg. Bread and rotting fruit whispered a siren song to its nose. It crept to the bread.

A hand grabbed it, faster than a diving hawk. "Got you!" The mouse squirmed and bit, but couldn't free itself. Its heart raced as it tried to escape. The hand opened, dropping it, and the mouse got ready to run. Only to land in a cage whose lid slammed closed before it could climb the wire walls.

"A volunteer," rumbled the voice. The sounds were ignored as the mouse explored every inch of the cage, seeking freedom. More strange noises but the mouse paid no attention as it nosed a the gap between lid and cage.

Pain, heat, cold, and pleasure rippled through its and it fell to the floor of the cage, convulsing. Unable to do anything but suffer, it felt wires pressing, hurting, bending.

"No, no! Stop! That's not right!"

The mouse's tail lashed in a sluggish movement. There was a gurgle then a thud. After a lifetime the mouse moved, hitting the ground with a thud. Next to it lay the body of the two-legger, neck twisted to the side.

At least it had food for weeks now.
