Turning Lemons into Vodka
Mar 01, 2021 3:46 am
Spring is around the corner!
No, really it is. I believe this because my lily white skin needs some serious vitamin D. Now don't get me wrong I know how skin cancer works and frankly I don't have the patience level to lay out in the sun very long, but I am desperate to just let the sun bath my skin for a few minutes and be WARM!
Because unfortunately the only thing that has been heating up around my house has been my frustration level. You know that old saw - "When life gives you lemons make lemonade." Well I'm making lemon vodka cause it's been bad enough that just the sugar alone won't do.
Why? Hear now the tale of my sad life or why life sucks. First I am TOO SLOW!!! Argh. I want to write faster, better, cleaner and I don't. It takes me too long between finishing the book and getting it to the editor. Then I need to wait for them to finish, then I need to go through the edits, then I have to format it, and then, and only then, can I put it up for pre-order. But I'm working towards it. Really the editor has Inherited Luck - I swear.
See? Cover and everything.
But there's more. One of my cons has gone virtual. Look I'm an introvert, I've told you this, but cons are where I6 get to actually talk to people and I know WHAT to talk to them about. And now I don't get to. And I love this con. So yet another year without seeing my tribe.
Starting to see why it's vodka?
Then we have marketing. Swear don't ask an author about marketing - they will start sobbing. I found out I need to do something - sooooo I'm working on it. I'll let you know when it is ready to go.
So all I can say is bah humbug!
Otherwise I don't have much else to talk about. So here is a mini story (I'm rather proud of this one) and don't forget you can read No Luck.
SPACE
The words to an old TV series danced through my mind as I looked at my mural. I thought it was the best artwork I'd ever created. Two months of planning and gathering materials, three months of work. It reigned as the the primary wall for the latest venture into space. They had a planet identified and already spoke of colony ships. Something I didn't qualify for.
"It's gorgeous, Kelly."
I slowly turned to face Maverick Stanton, CEO and the person who'd selected my vision for the wall out of all the entrants to the contest.
"It looks nice to you? I wasn't sure," I admitted as I turned back to gaze at it.
"I wish you could see what I do. It calls to everyone walking through, to jump into space, to follow the dream we created. What do you see?" I could hear the curiosity in his voice.
I turned my wheelchair back to face my creation. My cybernetic eyes didn't see colors the way human eyes did, it translated everything differently, and controlling everything via the remotes from my wheelchair had sent me home with migraines more than once. But when I looked at what I'd created with paint, filaments, microchips, liquid metals, and a few other ingredients that were only safe because I sealed it in lacquer, I was astounded with what had emerged. Even blind and in a wheelchair, limited to drone like remotes, I'd expressed the vision in my soul.
"Hope. I see hope."
I hope you enjoyed that one. Stay well and happy.
