Sanderson is here!

I'm frazzled, not enough hours in the day and its already Friday and I need to head to Jordancon, but that means I need to get this newsletter prepped, plus get my truck packed as I spent all day yesterday with friends. Which BTW the Tennessee Aquarium is gorgeous. So it was a great day, but means I am SOOOO behind.

Hunted is out in the wild, so did you read it? What did you think? If you haven't gotten it already it is available here. I'm already hard at work on book 2 of the next series, and I really like the plot so I'm trying to write fast and tight to the plot.

Ancestors

The remains of my ancestors lay gaping in the distance. How far we had fallen since they once created this world. Where they had been giants, I could now stand inside their eyes sockets. The elders said it made them feel small.

I felt empowered.

They were dead, we harvested from their bodies, and they could not stop us. I smirked to myself as I continued toward the nearest skull. The bone dust made fertilizer that fed the crops, which fed the animals, then us. All from beings who had died centuries ago.

Motion pulled me out of my thoughts and I stiffened to see eyes looking out at me. The fact that I could see the eyes at this distance because they glowed gold, sent a chill through my bones.

"Who are you?" My voice rang out, echoing off the bones all around us. There was no response to my question, but the eyes followed me as I moved through the field, seeking out the purest bones, the ones whose surface had not been mined already.

I tried to ignore the eyes, but they slowly got closer as I  moved through, seeking a source of marrow. That would give me power, but they were hard to find. The eyes now were only a short distance away , watching me. I spun glaring at them. "Go away," I snapped, annoyed more than scared.

"I can't," the voice whispered, carrying further than it should have.

All thought of gathering fled from me as I faced the figure that stepped out of the shadows.

"What are you," I demanded, staring at it. Taller than I, its legs and arms were oddly proportioned, its head too big and eyes too bright. Not normal but somehow familiar.

It smiled, showing teeth unnaturally bright. "I was. Now I will be again," it rasped lunging for me. Strange six fingered hands reached for me and familiarity snapped into place as I scrambled back. The proportions, the colors, and hands, were those of the ancestors.

Realization flashed through me as cold hands wrapped around me. They were back, and we were their prey. I never had a chance to scream, before my ability to talk was cut off.
