Have you listened to No Choice yet?

The last two weeks have been busy. I have No Choice available in audio. You can get it here from me. I am working on uploading it, but it will still be weeks until it is available anywhere else.

The trilogy of twistiness is living up to its name. But it is moving forward. The rabbit holes I go down about Victorian England are crazy thought. I've learned about chocolate shops, looms, candles, and what Irish immigrants were doing and where they lived. It is hard to pull back and remember I'm supposed to be writing. I just hope the series is as much fun for you to read as it is for me to puzzle out.

We did a winery tour as a celebration for my birthday last weekend, it was the first day everyone had off. It was fun. Brother and Sister in Law got all of us shirts so it was hilarious.

Here are the four of us. You can see the fun shirts.

And here is the shirt my brother got for himself.

We did not, in fact, need to be bailed out. But we did have a lot of fun. The wineries are gorgeous and it was awesome to hang out with friends.

Climb

Shellod kept climbing, the lantern trembling in his hands. Everyone had warned him about the stairs, but he had not thought there would be so many. How long had he been climbing? Hours? Days? The light from the lantern sent flicker shadows over the steps and he put a foot on the next one, heaving himself up. The climb had been easy at first, but now he was thirsty, tired, and hungry. All he wanted to do was to take a break, a nap, a drink.

But you knew not to ever stop on the steps. You kept going.

So he kept moving. There was nothing but the stairs, you climbed and climbed. His parents and siblings were waiting for him. The only hope he had was at least he didn't have to climb back down, it was only up.

Up.

The stairs felt different now, softer, as if they were giving way. He tried to look as he climbed, but the light revealed nothing but shadows. There was no ground, no sky, no walls, just stairs.

Shellod climbed.

His legs trembled as he made each step, thighs burning and arms aching from the holding the lantern. It's light weight now feeling like a bucket of water draining his strength.

But he climbed.

The shadows changed and Shellod lifted his head to see light coming from the top. Hope and a spurt of energy filled him and the next steps were faster. The end was in sight. With a sigh of relief, he stepped into the light.

The doctor sighed and stepped away. "He's gone. I'm sorry for your loss."

Unella, Shellod's wife shook her head as she laid a soft hand on his face. "No, he found the light. I'm glad he could climb far enough."
