The best laid plans

of Mel blow up.
4-5k a day in July, that was my goal. I was going to hit fifty thousand words this month, and get stories closer to being done. HA! I would like the thank which ever cosmic entity that has decided my life is their comic relief to go away now. Yeesh.
Let's just say vet, doctors, cars, holidays, birthdays, pet sitting, and people being sick has thrown a wrench in the works. BUT I SHALL SUCCEED! Or more likely I'm still trudging. Laughs. If I can get myself focused for the next week (which I doubt, surgeries, implants, vet visits, and doctor appoints) I still have a chance. Snickers. But I am trudging. I'm a bit over 15k for the month, so there is progress.
I am still working on my steps, but see the above and take a guess how consistent my working out has been. Here's a hint - it hasn't. Rolls eyes. But I am still working toward it.
The victorian UF - omg. I swear these three books had better knock your socks off or I might crawl into a corner and cry. But I think they might be good. As is the other books, I just need to get my ass in gear.
Gizmo however is settling in fine, though the other cats aren't as impressed.
Book Recommendations!
Hey, I have books for you this week! I'm trying to get back on my game. First up we have free book, Unbroken Strife. When alien meteorites crash across Earth, the global balance of power will change and the weak may become the most powerful. Can one man change the world?
Then available on Amazon, in KU if you have it, is a sci-fi story dragging a down-on-her-luck space cargo pilot and a former enemy warrior across space in an impossible fight against a rapacious mining corporation. Can they win, or will they die as pawns between mega-corporations and aliens? Check out Oceana and find out.

The war between the gods was over. Kelin had no idea who won, honestly didn't care. Standing there looking at the ruin of the family farm, the gouges in the earth, and most of all the glowing sword the only thing that was obvious, was the mortals had lost. The glowing sword that remained impaled in what had once been a spring of fresh clear water, only highlighted everything they had lost.
Rage burned in Kelin as more of the remaining villagers gathered around.
"What do we do?"
The lack of responses and the weight on eyes on her back made Kelin turn to see everyone staring at her. When did she become the one that was guiding the village? Her eyes scanned over and she realized, she, the only daughter of the blacksmith, was probably the person with the most experience in leadership at this point.
Bitter laughed filled her, but she bit it back, turning to look back at the ruined lands. With luck the blood of the gods would be rich and fertile. But it was just as likely the land here was contaminated. Rage, a desire to scream, to curse those that had done this to her home railed at the back of her mind. But that too was pushed down. The gods were always listening for their names and with the war so fresh you never knew how they might respond. No one sane spoke their names. Even worshiping them was unwise as their idea of helping wasn't always helpful.
"We clean and rebuild. If the ground will no longer support us, we move. We can pack up what we have. There are other towns like ours, we would be welcome there." As far as she knew it was the truth. They still had tools, skills, and even some livestock.
"And the sword?"
Kelin had no idea who asked, but she turned and looked at it. "I will turn it into plowshares, hoes, rakes, anything that is a tool, not a weapon. It has taken enough blood, now maybe it will serve us and not them." She knew people would want daggers and swords from that, but she would never make those. The idea of a god weapons in the hands of a mortal filled her with fear. The world would have to be ending before she would do that.
