Heat of Summer
Jul 26, 2026 4:21 pm
My teenage self is disappointed in me.
It is the height of summer and as a teen I'd be outside doing things, riding a bike, a horse, exploring the world, camping. The adult me, it is so humid outside, all I see are all the chores I need to do, and it is way too hot to contemplate. So instead I'm hiding in my air conditioned house and reading. I've been inhaling books lately and want authors to write the next one faster. And yes, I am very aware of the irony of that statement.
On the writing front... sigh. Pix is a problematic character, BUT I don't think I screwed up as bad as I thought and there seems to be hope on the horizon that the edits I thought I'd need, I might now. I just need to tweak a chapter and set up an extra break that would justify the current actions through book 2. I think. I'm editing slowly but the idea of writing is slowly coming through as opposed to editing. Laughs and I'm sure you read all of that and have no idea what I'm talking about. Bottom line I had Pix go a bit too far to the right, but I think I can fix it without rewriting book 1. Fingers crossed.
Otherwise, Dragoncon is coming up fast and I'll be sharing more stuff about that as we get closer, but I'll be there and you'll have multiple opportunities to come find me and hang out.

"You want dinner Ivory?" my current servant asked. I stared at her gaze unflinching. Ivory, really such a stupid name, but answering to it allowed provided me with food I didn't need to hunt, and pets and brushing. That made it worth putting up with.
Mostly.
"I swear you can tell time," my servant said laughing as she put wet food in the bowl for me. "There you go, Ivory." Her fingers trailed across my back and I arched into it, enjoying the feeling of soft pressure against my spine.
She walked away and I bent over to enjoy the food, when a whisper of wrong danced across my whiskers. I jerked my head up, looking for the enemy. There, a wisp drifted across the back of the chair. I bolted after it, determined it would not sully my space. This was my abode, my servants, and I would keep them safe.
"Ivory, what has gotten into you?"
I ignored my servant as I raced across the next line of furniture, then down behind it, getting closer as the evil wisp tried to avoid me.
"Not in my house," I hollered, my war cry splitting the silence.
"Ivory, what in the world?"
There! I pounced, all the fur along my spine standing up straight as I shredded the wisp. None of UnMakers essence would be allowed to grow in my home. My teeth and claws, tore it to bits, sinking into the fabric of the furniture.
"Ivory, how many times have I told you, no scratching the furniture." My servant batted me off it, but I strutted away, to my food. My house was safe once more. What the humans never knew protected them.

I'd rather think they are hunting something I can't see than just being crazy.
