I'm headed to Maryland!

Yes, I am going to Doug Burbey's place, but this time for the 4th of July instead of Halloween. Though I'll probably be up there for that as well. But I am driving up, so think of me Monday as I have 13-14 hour drive ahead of me. For you Europeans, yes, I know I could drive across a large chunk of Europe in that time. Shrugs. What can I say, I'm bringing a bunch of stuff, so driving it is.

But on that note, guess what Doug did? He finished the first draft of book 3 (or 5 depending on how you are counting) of Blood War! Yes I have it and I'm slowly going through and editing. But the hope is (if time would slow down) to have it launch at Mysticon. We'll see.

Otherwise I have taken the last two weeks to deal with admin stuff, which means only a tiny bit of writing, but I think maybe I'm getting to the point I'm ready to focus on the books as I have the rest of it cleaned up. Maybe. But my landscaping is almost on point, though I still have work to do and not enough energy. The story of my life, but it is coming together. Slowly.

Tela stood on the branch of her korlo tree. The one attached to her life, to her very existence, and looked out into the distance. Sheol lay next to her, the white fur stark against the bright brown bark, new and shiny grown. The damage proved the others were near and-as always-uncaring of the damage they did to the korlo. To her people.

"What should we do?" Tela spoke softly, knowing Sheol would hear her, those fuzzy ears heard everything, especially when she had just killed a squibbit.

Sheol flicked his tail at her and Tela sighed. His answer was always the same, kill them all. Which in theory she didn't disagree with, but the others had shiny shells that prevented even the smallest poison darts from getting through, and even if they did die, when you cracked open their shell it was full of meat that was poisonous to eat. But their continued disrespect of the korlo could not continue. The others had already killed three korlo, cutting it down like it was a simple plant, not the connection to the world.

She had no answers so she watched, hoping to find something that might give her a clue. Then she stopped as she watched the line of them move through the area, their awkward shells fighting through the vines of the swamp. An idea grew.

Three days later, Tela smiled hidden in the branches of a family's korlo as she watched the others get stuck in the swampy area she'd created in one of their routine paths. It hadn't been hard to reroute a few streams and encourage some family to plant creeping vines and transplant some unpleasant creatures in it. Leeches and biters were never fun.

They moved slower and slower as the mud and plants locked them down. Oh she knew they would get out, but maybe if they did this everywhere, they would get discouraged and go home.

She could but hope.
