Character Drama and books

I don't need kids, I have characters!

I swear I write the story, I know what they are going to do and where it is going to go, then NO! They dig in their heels and go the opposite direction and I'm stuck spluttering trying to figure out where the story is going next. I'm not even sure about the ending anymore. It is just craziness.

I have so much Victorian trivia in my brain now it isn't funny. I keep having to stop and look up crazy things. Like what were candles made of in 1865? Or what were chocolate shops like? What fabrics were woven? How did commercial looms work? Sigh. And now I'm not even sure if the ending I thought they would have will work. Nor am I sure how long they are going to be. I was aiming for about 80k, but... I dodn't know the word count is on pace with that, but they feel long. Is that good or bad?

Then there is my cozy mystery. I have ZERO idea if it works and if I should write the next one. Is anyone a cozy mystery fanatic that feels like reading a rough version and tell me if it works at all?

Otherwise the words are twisting, the cats are chasing each other, and my brain just might explode from story ideas, but I need to finish what I am working on! Argh, why can I jack in and just upload the story to my computer? It would be so much faster.

Weekly Micro Story

Star Fall

A tool forged with metal from the gods could slay a god. This weapon was made from the weapons of the fallen ones. The ones these gods destroyed. Or at least that was the story his parents had told him.

I'm going to die.

It was his mantra as he ran toward the gigantic figure emerging from the earth. The god's hair were vines and roots ripped from the soil, its body stone and gems, while it swung an axe that dripped molten rock.

I'm not even as tall as the knee. Why am I running to my death?

The answer was easy; there was no one else. The elders were getting the children to safety, while adults got the livestock away from the rampaging god. Ever since the star fell to earth some had gone insane. Hundreds died before other gods stepped in. So here Brian was running at an insane god instead of away, hoping the gods would help.

Oh well, they always said my strength was my best quality.

His thoughts were random, nonsensical, but even if he could gain minutes, it could mean lives. His planned to act like a wolf nipping at the heels of a deer, causing small wounds to slow it. Assuming he didn't die in the next few heartbeats. Brian darted in, using all of the speed terror could provide, and slashed at the heel tendon of the god.

Part of him expected it to bounce off, after all the god's skin was stone and gems, but it sliced through like butter. The god screamed, a sound that threatened to rupture Brian's ear drums. Then it began to dissolve, parts falling off, melting like a snowman with the additions tumbling to the ground.

Brian stared in horror at the sword. Did the gods know they could die so easily? Or were they not gods at all? The ramifications were endless, war, revenge, a life with no gods, a world desolate from their rage, an oasis where only mortals played. It could be their salvation or doom.

He swallowed hard and looked around. No one knew he had the sword, it was his grandfathers-grandfathers sword. No one could ever know. He turned and walked away, he rounded up stray livestock and never, ever mentioned what happened. Everyone thought another god saved them. He was good with that.

I'm sorry. Though this does link to a former microstory. This one.
