Murphy's Luck

imageIs wrapped around me tight!

So remember back in October my mom fell fractured her pelvis and drama ensued? Apparently she didn't learn her lesson and fell again on Wednesday (4-20) and fractured her pelvis on the other side. I'm sure you can imagine the look I have. The flat, annoyed, are you kidding me look. All because she refused to use her walker.

Yeah. So back to hospital, rehab, and all that other fun stuff for her and me. Luckily Faded Luck is with the beta's. I am wrapping up some short stories and then I will start on the next book. Still trying to decide what it is for sure, but I have so many stories I want to write in this world that I can't wait to get started.

But yes, my stress levels are back up, and I swear at this rate my blood pressure is never going to go down. But I got this. No choice. Grins, thanks for tolerating my lateness, but I swear books are coming.

I have some great things to share with you this month. I was at a conference this weekend speaking about self publishing and some of the authors, OMG you need to read their stuff.

Blood Mercenaries Origins. Knights, dragons, magic, and a queen who wants you dead. What isn't there to like about this book? It is available for $.99 and if you don't grab it you're missing out on book 1 of a 4 books series.

Now for something different. Ignite is all about dragons - but you can't get it yet. I know, I'm a tease. But you can follow the author Charis Crowe on TikTok @chariscrowe and follow as she works on this world. She is going to release all the books when when the trilogy is done. So if you are on TikTok follow Charis and watch a story develop. Her cover grabs me, and I can't wait to see what happens.

Otherwise, I am back to the beta's and their edits. Wish me luck!

Here is your weekly short, I need to write more of these.

Acting

The set bustled with activity, and the costuming director tweaked the hang of the linen sheath on the star. "That looks good Emily. Remember to keep your back straight or it will sag."

"I always have proper posture," Emily replied, ice in her voice.

"Sure whatever," the director said before stalking off. Emily didn't care. She'd been doing this for two decades. She knew how to wear a costume. A flicker of guilt rippled through, but she pushed it down. If you weren't careful people would walk all over you in this business and she didn't allow people to treat her like a doormat.

"We done?" She asked the make up artist, who was packing up her brushes.

"Yep." The answer was short, as Emily wasn't well liked, but then she didn't need to be liked. She had a string of academy awards, honors, and more to her name. All that mattered was she was respected.

"Thank you." But that didn't mean she was ever rude. She stood and looked at her in the full length mirror that was part of her contract. It didn't matter what mirror it was, there just had to be one for her to see herself in. There was a reason she had been in demand as an actress for so long.

Emily stared at the image in the mirror. A queen of Egypt, a pharaoh, a woman of power descended from the gods. The figure shimmered as Emily pulled in the various aspects of this character, the fight to survive, the need to protect her country, the ruthlessness created by royal infighting, the poise a woman in a man's world required.

With an icy smile Cleopatra smiled and stalked to the set. She had nations to conquer and awards to win.

I'm back to work. Have fun!
