and my mind is resisting everything!
I know this story, I've been wanting to tell it for almost two years, so why it is like pulling teeth. Basically I know the few big scenes, but feeling out my characters and getting them to these scenes is slower than I like. I also think I need to go tweak some characters, they are too bland in their scenes. Yes I want to write a story that rocks people's world. I think I'm missing the mark. Ugh.
In other news the launch is over, it went okay, but tell you no more newsletter sales notices if it isn't BookBub, totally not worth it. I think I spent about $400 to make about $32. Ugh. Oh well. Live and learn.
The next thing in my near future, besides Thanksgiving (which I am not ready for) and Christmas (which I am REALLY not ready for) I will be at Chattacon in January. So if you are in the Chattanooga area, you should check it out, I'll be selling books.
I managed to get out and do some garden work this weekend, and I need to get the yard guys back out here, but maybe by Christmas I'll not be stressed about my yard.
Book Recommendations!
This is a free prequel for an eight book series. It centers around the main character Preem, who must find a way to protect his king, even if it means laying down his own life. Check out The Young Defender
Or, if you don't know what you are in the mood for, you can try this book sampler from Helix press and try a bunch of different authors/stories. Take a look at Dark Helix Press Sampler.
Weekly Micro Story
Inscribed Mage
Elina walked into the center of the chamber, all too aware of the judging eyes upon her. The chamber was lined with bench seats and they were full to the point people were standing against the back wall, as there were no seats remaining.
The skimpy clothes revealed much of her body, but she knew no one was ogling her legs or cleavage, or if they were it wasn't to see them, it was all the magical diagrams she'd drawn all over herself.
"Are you ready?" one of the three judges asked. Elina's eyes snapped to them, in reality they were the only ones that mattered. They would judge if her application displayed mastery or not.
"I am," she said trying to sound strong, but it came out as a whisper. There were so many people watching because the last inscribed mage to gain mastery had been over a hundred years ago.
"Begin," the judge said, though the voice was not unkind.
Elina took a deep breath, closing her eyes as she concentrated on the designs she had painted on her skin. The language of magic was something most people used, then relearned, inscribed mages made it a part of them. Spells that were theirs for eternity. She began to dance, it was the only way she had found to keep the gestures and the words in the same rhythm, to call up each spell at the right time. It didn't match any courtly dances, but it followed the music in her mind.
With in seconds she lost herself in her own magic as it spun from her, around her, and then settled into her skin, searing like a light sunburn, and still she danced as she became one with magic.
And the first inscribed mage in a century.
