And so this chapter closes.
It is alive, and I'm sure many of you have already finished Balanced Luck by this point. I'm sitting here a bit sad and not sure where to go. I never expected a series to become so loved and it's hard to live up to. I've had the worst time focusing and yeah it's hard. I'm just hoping I can create more books that you want to read. And maybe see what Kris and the twins get up to.
I will say come January, I'm going to be trying to go more wide, and direct more sales to my personal shop, as Amazon and KU are paying very very little. I'll give you and example. In July the rate Amazon pays us dropped to $0.003989 per page. That means Faded Luck, which per Amazon is 570 pages, if read wholly via KU, Amazon would pay me $2.27. In November of 2021 Amazon was paying $0.00476087 per page. So that same page count would have paid me 2.71. Now .44 cents doesn't seem like much, but multiple it by a 1000 books a month and it's over $400 month over month. And that just hurts. So, a lot of indies like me are probably going to start going wide, selling direct, and hoping we can make up the difference. And yes it is scary and is going to be a lot of work, but I'm trying to look at options.
Right now I'm going to work on the epic fantasy and my Victorian Magic Something. I have Mage Hunter done but not edited. I'm not sure what to do with it. I'll let you know.
I leave this afternoon for Vegas to meet up with other authors. I'm hoping they'll give me a good kick in my butt and get me back on track. Or at least shake me out of my funk. Mirror Mirror
"Oh, how pretty," Sara said as she pulled out the mirror. The reflective surface was cloudy with age, the silvering at the back cracked, and the filigree around it was black. The beauty of it was still obvious. She turned it over in her hands as it was only about the size of hardback book. "Why in the world is this stuffed up here in the attic?"
Unable to resist she rubbed off the surface with her t-shirt and held it up. The bare light bulb in the attic reflected her face back to her, slightly distorted but still the face of a thirteen year old girl. Too many fairytales had her grinning and talking to the mirror.
"Mirror, mirror in my hand, tell me who is the fairest in the land," she was still laughing at her silliness when her image disappeared and a woman with black hair, tan skin, violet eyes, and a body Sara could only dream of having appeared.
"Catlina Von Horst, 28, lives in Brazil." The voice that spoke was rich and reminded her of English butlers on TV.
"How did you do that?" She whispered her hands shaking, but she didn't drop the mirror.
"Beauty comparison version 2.6. User is not old enough to use this device. Mental self esteem laws require all users to be at least twenty-five. No age appropriate comparisons will be made until that time." The screen went dark and Sara put away the mirror next to an old sparkler.
"Sara, did you find the Christmas decorations yes?" Her mom called up the stairs to attic.
"No, mom. Still looking." Sara closed up the box. She really needed to quit messing with her mom's stuff.
