Of Writers and Friends

I had big plans of writing and being almost halfway done with Balanced Luck by the end of May. Instead I'm not writing at all this week or next it looks like because I decided to sprain my finger so badly my entire hand is swollen and I'd down to hunting and pecking with my right hand. Have I mentioned I'm right hand dominate and it hurts so bad I was in the shower crying? Sigh. So I'm trying hard to focus on other stuff, but it is slowing me down and I'm upset about that. You are getting this Sunday, but I'm writing it on Thursday as I'll be at con this weekend, so yes I have a doctors appointment Friday morning.

That being said, the launch date for Unbalanced Luck is coming up soon and I have a cool idea I want to do, but I need to move faster to pull it off. We'll see.

Book Recommendations!

Yes I'm hurting, but I still have a sci-fi book for you. If you are hungering for one ship against the universe check out Defiant Space. A spaceship the only thing preventing the annihilation of their world. Available on Amazon and in KU.

Sacrifice

Ming-ya crouched in front of Yin, a smile on her worn face. "You be good at school. I expect you to learn and listen."

Yin nodded, the umbrella clenched so tightly in his hand his fingers were white.

"Good. Now go. I will be here waiting to pick you up when you are done."

He nodded once more, then walked stiffly towards the waiting school grounds, disappearing between the open gates. Ming-ya stood, her worn kimono as pale and faded as the centuries old stone walls.

"He will be fine," the voice whispered behind her.

She didn't turn around as the gates swung shut. "I know, but that does not mean I don't mourn for that which I have lost."

"He will live, is that not more important? You will see him again."

"As an adult. As a man with the only memory of me saying goodbye. He will not recognize the old woman waiting here for him. And I will know nothing of his joys or sorrows until he walks back out again."

"Everything has a price." The voice had no sympathy, but neither did it sound irritated.

"Do you think I am unaware?" Ming-ya turned and headed to the corner of the street. "Let's go. I have a job to do."

The voice followed though no one was there. "He will never know."

"I will." Her kimono faded becoming armor and the gray deepened to white. "Sacrifice makes me stronger." She stepped into the shadows and into the Ghost realm, the sacrifice of ten years of her son's life with her enough to make any mogwai flee from her.

Unseen eyes watched her step away to battle. "Yes, I know. Fight well my daughter." The only thing more powerful than time was life, and she'd sacrificed hers for Ming-ya.

I'm still not sure where I was going with that one. The story is itching at the back of mind.
