Weeds are Evil

imageAnd I'm pretty sure they are winning.

There are days I wonder about my sanity. Between my day job, my mother, my writing, the business stuff that goes along with writing, and the garden, I need at least 3 clones. I mentioned at the bottom of the last news letter that my mom was home early. I had prepped my newsletter early as I knew I was traveling Sunday and we had plans for that morning.

So Saturday (5-7) I walked in to visit my mom to find her crying. My mother doesn't cry from pain, like ever. And I snapped. They had already slammed her head into the headboard necessitating a CT scan. And now I find her waiting for an hour for someone to come help - yeah, I was done. We got her to the ER for tests and other things to make sure she was fine and we took her home (at 4 AM). Over all she is much better here. Flat out I will never do that again unless I am certain there is no way I can get people here in the house to help. Which isn't doing my stress level any good, but oh well.

Faded Luck is back from the beta's and I'm going through it and rewriting entire chunks that just don't work, and buffing up some things that I was way too cavalier about. Either way it is coming along.

In other news, I am doing a relaunch of my Kaylid series and I just received the new cover. We may still tweak it a bit, but I'm excited about how it looks. Take a gander and I'd love to hear what you think.

I actually don't even have anything to share this week. I need to convince people that my readers like action and adventure, not romance and sex. Hmm, oh well you just get a story from me.

Kyle stood staring at the door. It sparkled and glowed and seemed so out of place in this bleak cityscape. He didn't know how, but he knew it wanted him to go through and explore. Kyle looked at the trash, the graffiti, the smog low in the sky, and then back at the door. Fresh air blew out of it, the scent of flowers, and the sound of birds? He couldn't remember the last time he'd seen a bird.

He stood there frozen as flowers and vines crept out of the doorway, spreading, growing. He didn't think he'd ever seen a real plant before. The alleyway changed, making him think he might be at the verge of a forest with life and animals. That idea had him stepping forward, aching with the need to go.

His hand clenched and the food card bit into it, bringing him sharply back to reality. He'd been sent out to get food for his mother and sister. Dad had died before Lucy was born, and he didn't even remember what Dad had looked like. If he went in that door, he'd live Mom and Lucy behind. His eyes closed in sorry. He couldn't. He was all they had.

Fighting back tears Kyle turned to trudge to the store, maybe they would still have some eggs left. A vine crept out and wrapped around his leg.

Kyle looked down, not scared, just trapped both by life and the vine. It stretched out and a bud opened offering him a seed. It dropped into his hand as he stared.

"Really?" He could find a little dirt somewhere. The vine pulled back, as did all the others, and the door started to fade. Kyle clutched the small seed that now seemed more precious than anything.

Maybe, just maybe there was a chance.

I'm back to editing after I find lunch.
