Facing your discomfort and bias

Hello Dear Friends,
How are you doing?
I am well! I shared with you in the last newsletter that the front runner for this month's Masterclass was Cultural Identity and Career Progression. The poll has recently closed and that topic was the winner!
I recently created a corporate arm to my business, so I scale, grow and have a larger impact. In the work that I will do with corporates I will have mixed gender workshops, masterclasses and talks. Which is fantastic!
I primarily focus my work on women and helping women to advance in the workplace because I believe that we need to break the bias and that women need to carve our career success on their own terms.
To my surprise recently a man whom I'd collaborated with in the past reached out to me wanting career coaching. My initial response, was I don't do that I work with women. My second thought was this is going to be hard work, I mean does the person really want coaching?
Then finally I thought, this is a good opportunity to test my own bias and assumptions that "I can't coach men". So I said to the man in question, we can do a trial and see if this partnership works for us both. And it works great! If not, then we have explored that avenue.
It turns out I was wrong! I can coach men. No this doesn't mean I'm opening to men. It means that I have broken my own bias. It also allows me to assess any other enquiries on a case by case basis.
Hit reply and tell me, what's 1 thing you're going to challenge yourself on in terms of your own personal bias next week?
Have a wonderful Easter with you and your family.
Warm Regards,
Ekua
