What happens after the camera goes off or why is that person never on camera?

Hello Dear Friends,

I hope you're well.

Hybrid-working is definitely here to stay. Which brings opportunity in the form of:

✅ Allowing a flexible and controllable environment especially for your employees who are neurodiverse

✅ Allowing for more diverse hires in the workplace, women, careers and those with disabilities

✅ A reduction of office costs or in some instances going fully remove and removing all office costs

Which are all great things. I'm all for balance and believe that there is a need for co-workspace or place where people can come together as required for face to face interaction and collaboration.

And so with the up-side comes the down sides, pitfalls and opportunities for misunderstandings. Here are some common issues that I'm hearing that don't make hybrid-working great:

❌ Managers feeling ill-equipped to on-board new members of staff remotely and especially those that have a disability or are neurodiverse

❌ An over reliance on technology to create community, and interpersonal relationships

❌ People's access to good quality and reliable technology becoming a "judge of their character"

❌ People forgetting to be human with each-other and really taking the time build human connection and supporting well-being in workplace

Earlier this summer, I wrote an article for HR Zone, which reminds us all to get back to human and take the time to ask - How are you? And engage in a potentially uncomfortable conversation if something is shared. By taking the time to let people feel heard, listened to and valued, you help to promote mental-health and well-being before it becomes a crisis.

Have a great day ahead.

Warm Regards,
