Baby Animals, New Projects and Curve Balls
Apr 17, 2025 3:06 pm
Hey there!
Life threw some pretty unexpected curve balls at our home and family this last couple of weeks! From our boiler and heating system breaking for a week, to being evacuated from our home due to a natural gas mainline break just outside our house, we've definitely been kept on our toes.
In additional to those crazy situations, animals started having babies left and right. Our two does, Adell and Rivelen, had their baby goats just this last weekend! We were a bit surprised that they each only had one kid (considering in the last few years they've almost always had twins) but we're happy that mom and babies are all happy and healthy.
Also, the eggs we set to hatch three weeks ago did just that over the last few days! So far we've had thirteen hatchlings of various colors and breeds. At this point our flock is a colorful combination of store bought and home-hatched birds, giving it a pretty cool variety. You can see here in the pic that they had to spend a day in the 'air fish tank' while their bodies regulated temperature. Now they are out in the barn with the other animals ready to get bigger.
Last but certainly not least, I had the pleasure of joining Emma on her podcast, The Story Station. The podcast is focused on lessons from local authors, and in this case we talked about making time to work amongst busy lives and responsibilities. I also had the chance to give you a reading sample of Dragon Blooded read by yours truly. I have to say, I haven't read it out loud like that before, but it turned out really fun. Have a listen!
My Progress This Week
I've slowed down on edits for Dwarf Blooded just a bit on account of my creative brain needing a break. At some point, my mind kind of snaps and says 'I need to create something pronto!' So, I decided to foray into a prequel for The Hidden Heritage Series. If you've read the books, you'll know about Garlan, the half-human-half-orc son of the enemy. He's slimy, he's grimy, and he has a story. Orc Blooded is nearly done (it will be about a thirty page short story) and it tells the story of why Garlan ticks the way he does.
Just a note that in my Ream Community (https://reamstories.com/dankenner), the first three chapters of Dwarf Blooded are already out. Since there are about 24 weeks before its publish date, you get a new chapter every week until then! Yep, you heard that right. If you join the community (for a few dollars), you get to start reading the next story a whole six months before it comes out. What's not to like about that?!
Here's a free book for you!
warm regards,
Dan
